The following information have been provided to help pet owners learn more about the benefits of feeding raw food and providing good health care.
let’s answer this question in two parts.
puppies-one thing about puppies, they grow really fast! They get bigger and bigger each day. For owners that want to start their puppy on raw, you can use this as a general guideline. This is based on a puppy’s age, and weight. Keep in mind large breed dogs grow at a different rate than small breed dogs.
This is a general guideline and adjustments can be made depending on your dog’s individual needs.
10-12 months: 3-4% of your puppy’s current body weight
Adult dogs- An adult dog’s diet is based on maintaining an ideal healthy weight, rather than the growth they need as a puppy.
A dog’s portion depends on their weight, activity level and age. You should consult with a vet if your dog has any special dietary needs. Again, this is a general guideline
Adult dogs with an ideal weight: 2% of its body weight.
We recommend feeding your dog 1-2 times a day, and for puppies 2-4 times a day. This will also depend on if your dog has any special needs set out by your vet.
Transition from dry food to raw food
There are two ways to switch dogs from dry to raw food, Fast and Slow. With healthy young dogs , the rapid method is typically the simplest and most successful . However, for older pets that have been eating kibble/dry food all their life or dogs with gastrointestinal problems, s slower transition is recommended.
Fast switch: most dogs that are young and healthy can do a quick switch to raw overnight. ( kibble yesterday and raw today)
Slow switch: this is a very common option which most owners like to do. The transition can be anywhere from two days to a week. This is where you can mix dry food and a small portion of raw to their feeding and gradually decrease the amount of dry food each day.
No. The food contain bones, when boiled, bones can be sharper and dangerous which could put your dog ay risk.
The following feeding guideline is a general estimation of what your ADULT pet could consume daily. Other considerations you may want to include is the breed (energy levels differ); the amount of daily exercises ie; non-stop-on-the-go Vs couch potato. Other foods, bones and treats should always be considered in the calculations.
